6 Post-Holiday Skin Detox Tricks

The holiday season is the time when we just eat and drink a lot, forget to take our makeup off after a long night of partying, decide to shower once we wake up, and other not so healthy or smart choices. And that’s completely ok but only for a short while.

What follows next is a post-holiday recuperation. A time just for ourselves, to take it slow and detox and get back to our normal selves.

You can start your post-holiday detox with your skincare. Believe it or not, our skin also needs recuperation after the holidays. So, why not start there. Check out these 6 post-holiday skin detox tricks that will help you get back to your normal routine.

1. Hydrate and replenish electrolytes

Drinking water is a great way to start your post-holiday detox journey. Remembering to drink enough water is the key thing if you want your skin to recover its healthy glow.

Apart from providing enough hydration, water is great for your digestive system and it helps flush unnecessary body waste. In addition, water keep gives your skin elasticity and prevents premature wrinkling.

However, if you want to replenish your body with minerals, vitamins and nutrients, make yourself a smoothie. Electrolyte replenishing smoothies are a great way to replace electrolytes lost during the holidays. The imbalance and low level of electrolytes in our bodies can cause negative changes to our skin.

Electrolytes ensure balanced hydration levels of our skin, they influence new cells to form and thus create a protective skin barrier, amongst other things. That’s why replenishing electrolytes after holidays is a good place to start your detox skin care routine.

2. Give your skin and pores a good detox

Another way to help your skin recuperate is by cleansing both your skin and pores – think of it as deep cleaning! You can do this by exfoliating with homemade scrubs, or you can use face masks with exfoliating properties.

If you settle on homemade scrubs, it’s always good to know which natural ingredients you can use to make a scrub. Natural exfoliants include sugar, coffee, baking soda, sea salts, honey, lemon and so on.

5. Wash away the holidays

Citrus soaps and body washes can help you wash away the holidays. Not only do they smell nice but their smell is uplifting and relaxing. Showering with soap bars that smell like lemon or eucalyptus will leave you feeling energized, which is exactly what you need after all the holiday craziness.

Additionally, soap bars made with natural ingredients can be very beneficial for any skin, especially if you have sensitive skin.

6. Get back to your regular skincare regimen

After all the celebrating is over, you can get back to your regular skincare routine. Moreover, it’s recommended that you return back to it.

Go back to cleaning and exfoliating your skin regularly, to hydrating it and don’t forget to regularly use a moisturizer with built-in SPF.
